Dream Velvet Foundation Review

Hi Guys

Today I am going to be reviewing the Dream Velvet foundation from Maybelline in the colour 01 Natural. The foundation retails for €11.99

Maybelline claims that the foundation:

  • Provides a semi matte finish
  • Velvet Smooth Finish
  • Leaves complexion perfected
  • Skin stays hydrated for 12 hours

The foundation has a gel whipped formula which is usually very hydrating but for me it really did not work out. I have combination skin which can sometimes be quite dry so I thought that this foundation would be perfect but that was not the case. When I first applied the foundation it blended out perfectly and looked flawless. It is by no means  a high coverage foundation so if you want to cover blemishes you would need quite a heavy-duty concealer to use along with this product. I’m quite pale so I went for the lightest shade available which was still not a perfect match for me as the product, while it blends out nicely also oxidises and the colour does get slightly darker so you would need to get the shade lighter than the one you would regularly use.

I always use moisturizer and primer before I apply foundation and that usually sorts out any dry skin issues that I have but when I used this foundation, I was able to see some cakeiness and the foundation clung to any dry patches within an hour of wear. The foundation also doesn’t really dry down like other matte foundations will which means that the foundation does transfer quite a lot onto clothes which can be an issue. Maybelline recommends that you buy the specific blender for the foundation, which I did not do but I can’t imagine it would have made much of a difference to how the foundation wears on the skin.

This foundation may be perfect for someone with normal/oily skin as the dryness would not be as much of an issue. In terms of wear time, the foundation does last at least 8-10 hours which is great for a semi-matte foundation. If you have combination skin and you’re looking for a foundation to give you the perfect matte look then I would highly recommend the L’oreal Infallible 24 hour foundation because it is amazing value for money as you get a flawless matte finish from a drugstore product. I hope this review was helpful and I will chat to you guys soon!

Revlon Colorstay Lipstick Review

Hi guys!

Product Overview

Today I am going to be reviewing the Revlon Colourstay Ultimate Suede lipstick in the colour Backstage. The lipsticks cost €12.49 and range from light to dark colours.

Revlon claims that the product:

  • Provides instant moisture to the lips
  • All day colour
  • Velvety soft formula
  • Food proof and doesn’t quit

Review

I was so excited to try the Revlon Colorstay lipstick as I had seen many bloggers and youtubers absolutely rave about this product but I have to say that this review will not be a positive one.

First of all, the lipstick that claims to provide instant moisture is actually quite drying. I did not apply any chapstick and the lipstick was very drying and clung to any dry patches which I had on my lips. Not a good thing for a lipstick which claims to be moisturising! I would definitely not recommend this product to anyone who has overly dry lips as it will cling to any problem areas that you might have.

Secondly, the formula seems to be velvety smooth, as claimed but the colour payoff on the colour Backstage was absolutely terrible. I could see my natural lip colour after I applied the first layer which disappointed me a lot. When I tried to build the colour up the lipstick budged and moved all over the place rather than setting slightly, which you would imagine a lipstick which claims to last all day would do. The lipstick also has a sticky finish which I personally do not prefer so if you don’t like that kind of finish then I would avoid these! The colour lasts about two hours of regular wear without eating food or drinking which is massively disappointing for something that claims to be long wearing.

The lipstick also was absolutely not food proof and came off pretty much straight away after I had eaten food. The lipstick wears away from the middle of the lips outwards and cakes up dramatically which definitely isn’t a look I would go for!

Overall, while the lipstick formula is very soft and smooth, the lipstick does not live up to any of its other claims so I would not recommend this product. I am hoping to try other colours in the range to try to get a better idea of what the other colours are like. I hope this review is helpful to anyone who wants to try out the Revlon Colorstay lipstick range!

Thanks Guys!

Makeup Revolution Review

Hey guys!

Today I am doing a quick review on the Golden Sands Ultra Blush palette by Makeup Revolution. The brand is based in the UK and has recently become available in some Irish pharmacies. I purchased my palette on the Makeup Revolution Website and it currently retails for £6.00/€7.87.

Overview of palette

Review

The palette itself is a mix of highlighers, matt and shimmery bronzers and shimmery blushes. The white highlight shade is the standout of the palette. It has a gold iridescent streak running through it which photographs beautifully. The highlight can also be used in the inner corner of the eye to add dimension to a night time look.

The blushers are beautiful but do have a high shimmer content so if you don’t like a shimmery blush then I would not recommend this palette. The shimmery blushes in this palette would be perfect alone or used as blush toppers on top of a matte blush for the ultimate wow factor.

The shimmery bronzer in this palette would be perfect for a bronzed glowly look. It is quite warm toned and would look beautiful as a blush for people who have deeper skin tones. The bronzer is highly pigmented though, so a light hand is definitely required when using this product. The matte bronzer is a perfect all over bronzing shade for people who have a lighter skin tone. The bronzer can also be applied more heavily in order to be used to contour the face. Again, this bronzer is highly pigmented but it does blend out very easily which makes it the perfect contour shade for someone who is just starting out with makeup.

Overall, this palette is sensational value for money. Each pan contains product which is deeply pigmented and blends beautifully which is something you definitely would not expect from a palette at the drugstore. All the products, the matte bronzer in particular are extremely long wearing and perfect for busy days when you don’t have much time to keep applying product. The packaging is gorgeous and puts some high end products to shame and also comes with a large mirror which makes it perfect for travel!

Tips!

Spray your brush with some priming spray or setting spray as this makes the product even easier to work with!
